It seems that more and more people are choosing to holiday with their four-legged friends these days. When we opened The Old Stables we knew we would be welcoming a puppy of our own into the family so the choice to go ‘dog friendly’ wasn’t one that we debated for very long!
Jasper, our 9 month old Golden Retriever, arrived at The Old Stables in June, 2016. Since his arrival we have welcomed no less than 20 dogs to the B&B. All shapes, sizes and colours and all perfectly delightful (with lovely, well behaved owners too!).
We have recently listed with two great websites – Dotty 4 Paws and The Good Dog Guide. Both sites offer a plethora of information for owners travelling with their pups. Please check them out for information on Dog Friendly Pubs and Restaurants, Doggie Boutiques and everything in between.
Dogs staying at The Old Stables will find a Pup Pack in their room for use while they stay. It contains all those ‘necessities’ as well as a doggie bag of treats. We aren’t steeped in rules and regulations but we have put together a Pet Policy which can be found on our pet friendly page on our website.
So other than enjoying the immediate area around The Old Stables there are some great dog walking routes you can venture out to. Somerset is fantastic walking country. Experience lush rolling hills, the Somerset Levels and dramatic coastal paths – there’s something for everyone! The Ancient Isle of Avalon (Glastonbury) is a great day out for owners with dogs. Climb the iconic Glastonbury Tor for stunning views or take your pup with you into Glastonbury Abbey – the grounds are perfect for a good walk for smaller or older four-legged friends who might find the Tor something of a challenge! The dramatic Cheddar Gorge offers plenty of walks and shouldn’t be missed and don’t forget about the many National Trust properties in Somerset. Most welcome dogs and make for a great day out.

Strawberry Line : enjoy traffic free walking and cycling with little ones on this dedicated route following the old railway line by the same name.

Dogs are welcome across Stourhead’s countryside areas all year round. They are welcome in the landscape garden from March-October after 4:00pm, after 3:00pm in November and all day, every day from December-February.
Bath: Bath is a great place to walk your dog and combines beautiful green spaces within short walking distance of a busy city-centre. Popular walks in the area include; the National Trust Bath Skyline, the Kennet and Avon Canal, the Cotswold Way and Royal Victoria Park. Lots of information can be found on their website
But now you’re feeling peckish so it’s time to grab a bite to eat. Somerset is very dog friendly when it comes to pubs and restaurants. We are very lucky to have the Poachers Pocket Pub a quick 2 minute walk right at the end of our driveway. Dogs are always welcome. It’s a busy pub though so if you are planning on staying with us please book ahead!
