Eating Out

Where to eat in Somerset when staying at The Old Stables

We’re often asked by guests where to eat in Somerset – and there are lots of potential answers! We’re lucky to have very good pubs and restaurants in Somerset, and many are an easy drive from The Old Stables.

If you fancy something a little closer to home, The Poachers Pocket Pub is a short 2 minute stroll away from the top of our driveway. Please go early or pre-book as this is a busy pub every night of the week!

Here are a selection of some of the local places that we personally enjoy:

The Talbot Inn, Mells

The Mendip Inn, Oakhill

Fountain Inn, Wells

At the Chapel, Bruton

Anton’s Bistrot and The Penn Bar at The Crown, Wells

The Oakhill Inn

The Strode Arms

Some of the suggestions above are also dog friendly but do check individual websites (or call) to be sure if you are taking your dog along with you. We also recommend calling ahead before you set out to check that the restaurant or pub is open and serving food. Also, many pubs or restaurants are fully booked at weekends and during busy times of the year, so please book to avoid disappointment.

If you want a taxi please, please, please book one in advance. We are in a rural location and we don’t want you to be disappointed if you are unable to get a taxi last minute. We recommend Swift Car.
