Here we all were, basking in the February sunshine, it was gorgeous. The warmest February on record in fact! Alas, we were being teased by Mother Nature and we have returned to winter but that doesn’t mean that it’s not a great time to visit Somerset. Here’s some ideas on what to do during your visit to Somerset in March.
The Bath & West Showground has a number of events going on this month and they are as varied as the weather has been! The 10th March brings the second Giant Flea Market of the year. A great way to while away a few hours on a Sunday afternoon. The flea market is always one of the most popular events held at The Showground, offering a bounty of retro collectables, vintage articles and unique finds.
If outdoor pursuits are more of your thing, The West of England Game Fair is an essential countryside event, catering for those who are passionate about field sports with a focus on shooting, gun dogs and fishing. The event also has a wonderful mix of have-a-go activities including archery, air rifles, Terrier and Lurcher shows, family dog show, clay shooting with Bristol Clay Shooting; fascinating demonstrations both indoor and outdoor – top names in the areas of falconry, wildfowling, ferreting, gun dog training, fly casting and more; an educational insight into a variety of countryside issues and sports and a fabulous shopping village with over 300 companies all under cover in four halls! There will be a variety of companies selling a range of products from country clothing, guns and accessories, fishing, deer stalking equipment to gundog equipment, country homewares, local food and drink and crafts. The Game Fair takes place over the 16th and 17th March.
The 23rd March brings the Toy and Train Collectors’ Fair followed by The Antiques and Collectors Fair on the 30th and 31st. More info can always be found on the Bath & West website (linked above).
Got a plant lover in your family? The Rare Plant Fair takes place at the beautiful Bishops’ Palace, Wells on the 17th March. A great opportunity to buy interesting and unusual plants from dedicated nurseries, all of whom are genuine growers offering well-grown plants and advice on the plants they sell. It’s a great excuse (not that you need one!) to have a leisurely stroll around the Bishops’ Palace gardens too and maybe a bite to eat in Wells. Sounds like the perfect way to spend a Sunday.
Finding somewhere for shopping is never a problem. Kilver Court is a 2 minute drive away from us. You will also find unusual gift items and somewhere to rest and enjoy a well deserved cuppa. Shopping can be hard work! Clarks Village is a must visit with 90 designer and high street brands, restaurant terrace with indoor and outdoor dining, 1,400 parking spaces. Clarks Village was the first ever outlet shopping centre in the UK and is the location of the largest Clarks shoes outlet store in the world! Located one mile from Glastonbury and the world-famous Abbey.
There’s never a bad time of the year to take a trip into Bath or Bristol with all that these two cities have to offer you’ll be spoiled for choice.
