Wells Festival of Literature

One of the best things to do as the nights grow darker and longer is to snuggle up under a blanket with a new book. We’ve always been a family of readers, and so when the 2018 Wells Festival of Literature was announced, I knew that I had to let you know all about it.

44348298_200735437498212_2205147913275834368_nThe first Wells Festival of Literature took place in 1992. Before this, the Cheltenham Literary Festival had been the only literary festival in South West England. Ever since then, Wells has been home to a festival every year, seeing literary stars such as Terry Pratchett, Andrew Motion, and even Queen of Baking herself, Mary Berry!

This year is set to be even more exciting, with authors of all genres speaking at the festival. I’m particularly thrilled to see that Adam Kay (author of This is Going to Hurt) and Matt Haig (author of Reasons to Stay Alive) are both going to be presenting. I’d better book my tickets, and quickly too!

If you’re interested in all things literary, I would also recommend also checking out this article about Jane Austen in Bath, and this list of the top 10 independent bookshops in the South West! And if you don’t have time to visit any of them, you are more than welcome to pick up any of the books we’ve placed in your room or around the house. You never know, you might find your next favourite author!
The festival is running from 19th October-27th October. You can buy tickets and look at the schedule at: http://www.wellsfestivalofliterature.org.uk.
