Somerset Events in Summer 2022

Somerset events in summer 2022
Jun29

There’s always something happening in Somerset! As July and August approach, we wanted to let you know that there are many events in Somerset coming up! Here we’ve put together a great list of Somerset events in summer 2022.

Dunster Country Fair – 27th July

You know that we love a country show, and one of the best in Somerset is in Dunster! It’s the best of everything that the west country has to offer – from artisan ginmakers Exmoor Distillery to local jewelry makers. We’re particularly excited to purchase a couple of items from The Wilds of Exmoor, too!

There will also be so many displays in the main ring and the village green and things to do! Some of the things that we’re most excited for include:

  • Hawkeye Falconry
  • Vintage Tractors
  • A display by Portuguese Lusitano Horses
  • Archery
  • Traditional country crafts
  • Terry Moules Racing Ferrets (yes, you read that right!)

You can still get your tickets!

Pick Your Own at Forde Fruit Gardens – 21st June to July 25th

Forde Fruit Gardens is technically in Dorset…but it’s close enough that we had to include it! Because if you’ve always wanted to pick your own fruit, this is the place.

Here they let you pick sun-ripened strawberries, gooseberries, raspberries, blackcurrants and red currants! You can bring them back to the B&B as a delicious snack, or take them home to make your own jams, cakes, or more! It’s amazing how locally-grown fruits are so much sweeter than store-bought ones!

It’s free to enter, there’s plenty of free parking, and the kiosk offers ice cream tubs to tempt you when you’re paying for your fruit at the end.

Somerton Music & Arts Festival – 1st to 14th July

The Somerton Music & Arts Festival now takes place over a fortnight with plenty of events taking place throughout the town including music nights at local hostelries, crafts, art and photography exhibitions, and talks and walks.

We think that some of the most interesting events include the truffle-making class with Craft House Chocolate, wine tasting at Somerton Wines, and a folk perfomance by The Drystones. Somerstock is also back in 2022, bigger and better than ever, on Saturday 9th July, which will be headlined by The Hoosiers!

Felthams Farm Cheese Tasting – 15th to 24th July

As part of the Somerset Food Trail, the fantastic Felthams Farm will be having daily cheese tastings! The cost for this is £10 per person, but includes the price of your first cheese purchase. It lasts 45 minutes, during which you are guided through the Academy of Cheese’s Tasting Wheel, tasting each of their four cheeses. You will have a tour of pigs eating their organic whey, and possibly feed their Hebridean sheep too!

You don’t want to miss out on award-winning organic, artisan cheeses including the delicious Renegade Monk, Rebel Nun and Gert Lush! This is definitely one of the top events in Somerset in summer 2022.

Great Dorset Steam Fair – 25th to 29th July

We’re heading back to Dorset for this final event – but you have to forgive us, because we had to talk about the Great Dorset Steam Fair. You’re sure to find something to entertain you – from the many steam exhibitions and demonstrations to live music acts to falcolnry and working dog shows!

But that’s not all. The Real Ale Entertainment Marquee has a large and delightful selection of mouth watering real ales from micro breweries based here in the south west together with some famous national brands. There are also a huge variety of traditional and global foods on offer too!

The Great Dorset Steam Fair really is a celebration of everything great about the countryside.

These are just some of the events happening in Somerset in summer 2022 (…and Dorset)! If you like the sound of these events, make sure to follow us on social media. We are always posting about upcoming events and things to do in Somerset and the rest of the west country.
