It’s February, so romance is in the air! If you’ve been thinking about taking a short romantic holiday, then you should absolutely consider coming down to Somerset. From fine dining to fun experiences, here’s what we think you should do for Valentine’s Day in Somerset.

Food and drink:

Bath: Green Park Brasserie – heading into Bath for Valentine’s Day? We wholeheartedly recommend Green Park Brasserie. It’s a steakhouse and jazz bar that is known for its amazing music and atmosphere.

For Valentine’s Day in 2022, they’ll have live music throughout the night, plus a selection of local, seasonal dishes. And don’t forget their cocktails – our favourites are the Scarlett O’Hara and their fresh Moscow Mule.

Bristol: Pony Bistro – if you’re heading into Bristol to celebrate Valentine’s day in Somerset, then you have to check out Pony Bistro. What sets it apart is the fact that the chefs cook over open fire — focusing on local seafood from the South West coast and seasonal vegetables and herbs that are grown in their own Pony Garden.

We recommend trying their four course Bistro Menu. This menu changes all the time, but when we last visited we dined on wild pheasant, Cornish Saddleback pork loin & belly and the most sumptuous dark chocolate fondant. Yum!

The Inn at Freshford – a pub that we thoroughly enjoy is The Inn at Freshford. Located right on the Two Valleys Walk, this is the perfect spot for lunch or dinner after a romantic walk through The Cotswolds Area Of Outstanding Beauty.

Real ales and great wines are on offer, but what we really love is the food – this is definitely not average pub fare! Confit duck leg, venison, and crab and lobster crumble are just some of the delicious dishes to indulge in.

Bruton: Matt’s Kitchen – finally, we have to recommend Matt’s Kitchen in Bruton! We visited this unique little restaurant in 2021 and we think it would be the perfect romantic spot for Valentine’s Day in Somerset.

Run by self-taught chef Matt Watson, this restaurant is located in the downstairs of his home in Bruton! He serves a set menu of seasonal, fabulous and fresh food on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Matt’s Kitchen is BYOB, but don’t let that put you off! The food is incredibly delicious and changes as different ingredients come into season.

Activities:

The Golden Retriever Experience – can’t get enough of our golden retriever Jasper? Head to The Golden Retriever Experience! Here you can spend up to 6 hours with a pack of gorgeous golden retrievers. Play fetch, have a cuddle, and enjoy spending time with some of the friendliest dogs you can find.

This is the perfect Valentine’s Day experience for couples who can’t own dogs, or are thinking about getting one! Please note that if you have a dog, you cannot bring them along.

Thermae Bath Spa – perhaps you’re in the mood for something a bit more relaxing. If so, The Thermae Bath Spa is for you. This is Britain’s only natural thermal spa, which means that all of the baths and pools are naturally heated and full of good minerals.

The Thermae Welcome is the package to go for – it includes a 2 hour spa session where you can relax in the mineral-rich pools, use their Wellness Suite (that includes a state-of-the-art Infrared Room, a Celestial Relaxation Room, an invigorating Ice Chamber, and two aroma Steam Rooms) and eat at the Springs Cafe. Heaven!

Hot Air Balloons – finally, a fun and romantic thing to do in Somerset for Valentine’s Day is to hop on a hot air balloon! Get a stunning bird’s eye view of the historic city of Bath or Bristol in a private hot air balloon. To make it extra romantic, you can book a private flight with champagne.

Two great companies that offer this service in Bath are Bath Balloons or Bailey Balloons. Just make sure you’re not afraid of heights!

B&B:

Of course, you have to stay with us at The Old Stables! We may be biased, but we think that our B&B is the perfect retreat for couples. You can cuddle up in our soft bathrobes, play board games in front of a roaring fire, or take your dog on a long and relaxing walk.

We also can provide you champagne buckets and glasses if you’d like to enjoy a bottle of champagne or prosecco. It’ll go perfectly with the homemade shortbread that you can find in all of our rooms!

These are just a couple of our ideas for what you can do for Valentine’s Day in Somerset! You can find more ideas for what to do for Valentine’s on Great British Life.
